Network Interface Card (NIC)

First install a 10baseT Network Interface Card (NIC), with RJ45 connectors, in each computer and install the drivers for each card on each computer.

Connect the NIC's  with a CAT 5 UTP crossover cable. Use RJ45 connectors. Almost every computer shop will have the cable and NIC's

Network Client

Install a Network Client on each computer

Client for Microsoft Networks works very well. Click the Windows Start Button, Settings, Control Panel and double click the Network icon to open the Network Property Sheet. Check to see if Client for Microsoft Networks is installed. If a dialup or dsl/cable connection is present CFMN should be installed.

If Client for Microsoft Networks isn't installed:

Click the Add Button, double click Client, in the left pane under Manufacturers single click Microsoft. In the right pane under Network Clients single click Client for Microsoft Networks and click the OK Button.

Each time a new component is added Windows will ask for the Windows CD or install the necessary files from the "CAB" files on the hard drive and want to reboot. Don't  close Network Properties or reboot until all components are added.

Network Protocol

Install a network Protocol on each computer.

Single click the NIC entry, click the Add button, double click Protocol. In the left pane under Manufacturers click Microsoft, in the right pane under Network Protocols click NetBEUI, Click OK.

The list under the Configuration Tab of the Network Property Sheet should now include the NIC, NetBEUI in addition to any other entries already present and CFMN if it was added.

File and Print Sharing

Install File and Print Sharing on each Computer.

Click the File and Print Sharing Button and check the "I want to be able to give access my files" box. If printer sharing is needed also check "I want to be able to allow others to print to my printer[s]"

Each time a new component is added Windows will ask for the Windows CD or install the necessary files from the "CAB" files on the hard drive and want to reboot. Don't reboot until all components are added.

After all components are added, reboot the computer.

Drive, Folder and File Sharing

Share drives, Files and Folders on Each computer.

When Windows is loaded after the reboot open Windows Explorer.

Right click in any Drive, Folder or File that needs shared and click on "Sharing" from the list. Tic the "Shared As" radio button, assign "Access Type" and "Password" if needed.
